Resolving Conflict Through Mediation:
Disputes are an inevitable part of life, whether they arise from family breakdowns, financial disagreements, or civil matters between individuals and businesses. What many people do not realise however, is that Court is not the only option, nor is it always the best one. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution.
Benefits include:
- Cost-Effective: Avoiding significant legal fees and expenses associated with Court proceedings.
- Faster Resolutions: Most mediations can be organised and resolved far more quickly than Court cases.
- Confidential: Discussions remain confidential and cannot be used later in Court proceedings.
- Empowering: Each participant has a voice and contributes to the solution.
- Child-Focused: In parenting matters, the process encourages decisions made in the best interests of the children.
- Relationship-Preserving: Mediation helps maintain respectful communication and preserves relationships.
What is Alternative Dispute Resolution?
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a practical, cost-effective method in resolving conflicts without expensive litigation such as mediation. Mediation is a collaborative process that allows the parties to reach mutual agreements in civil and family law related disputes without going to Court.
In family law, this includes:
- Parenting arrangements: decisions about where the children will reside, how time is shared between parents, education, communication and parental responsibility.
- Property settlements: how assets, liabilities and finances are divided post separation.
The goal is simple, to reach a resolution that works for everyone without the emotional strain, cost and delay of Court based litigation.
In civil matters, mediation can help resolve disputes such as:
- Neighbourhood or boundary disagreements
- Contractual or business disputes
- Debt or payment conflicts
- Workplace or community disagreements.

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner
As a Nationally Accredited Civil Mediator (NMAS) and a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP), Natalie is passionate about helping people find cost-effective solutions outside the Courtroom.
Based in both Hervey Bay and Brisbane Queensland, Natalie can further assist clients remotely throughout Queensland and Australia wide. At Justice Law & Mediation, we use ADR methods such as mediation, negotiation and conciliations to assist clients efficiently saving them money on legal fees.
Natalie sought her FDRP accreditation with a strong belief that alternative dispute resolution is one of the most effective ways to achieve lasting outcomes, without the expense of litigation. Mediation allows the preservation of relationships, ensuring the wellbeing of children. It allows parents/carers to utilise self-determination, where they make the decisions for their children, instead of a Federal Court Judge.
“Court proceedings can be lengthy, stressful and expensive. Mediation gives people control over the outcome, fosters cooperation and helps preserve relationships, especially where children and parents are involved.”
