  • In Queensland, the Department of Child Safety is responsible for protecting the safety and wellbeing of children who may be at risk of harm. If concerns are raised about a child’s care or welfare, the Department may take a range of actions under the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld), including:

    • Investigating allegations of harm or risk of harm.

    • Developing a safety plan with the family to manage risks.

    • Interviewing the child, parents, carers, and other relevant parties.

    • Applying to the Childrens Court for a short or long term Child Protection Order.

    • Removing a child in urgent circumstances under Section 18 of the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld).

    • Referring the matter to the Director of Child Protection Litigation (DCPL) for further action.
